Responding to both gallery space and the artists and artworks, DD Studio's exhibition designs are crafted and shaped to emphasise the strengths of both. The 2005 Africa Remix: Contemporary Art of a Continent at the Hayward Gallery, London wove a journey through three broad themes of City and Land; History and Identity; and Body and Soul. David Dernie’s solo exhibition Material Imagination, exhibited at the British School of Rome, explored the relationship between painting and the material conditions of architecture and space. More recently, Shipwreck, staged at Cambridge School of Art, was a collaboration between David Dernie and author Olivia Laing creating a parallel narrative composed of images drawn from 19th-century French newspapers placed alongside text which could be read individually or in response to each other.
